Bonobos Vegetarian Restaurant

August 20th, 2011

So I thought I’d give our Fashion Week on Bellissima Kids a breather and tell you about this wonderful place where we had lunch today.

We’ve been going to Bonobos Vegetarian Restaurant for years. And in fact, it’s not only vegetarian but raw. And not only raw, but mostly organic… and delicious! Here is Oona in her blissful state eating her nori rolls filled with her choice of salads and nut meats with a very tasty selection of dressings. They also have all sorts of inventive vegetable dishes (they are not afraid of using spices), and for dessert an array of ice-creams made purely from fruit, mesquite and sesame truffles, and coconut cream with pineapples. Mmm. And the wonderful part for Mamas is this place is completely child-friendly. You can breastfeed freely as the clientele and staff are very pro-natural or you can go in the back room for privacy. Oona has been running around this place for years and people interact with her very sweetly. More of a zen crowd here. Bonobos is open for lunch up until early in the evening and is on 23rd Street, between 5th and Madison-a stone’s throw from one of my favorite buildings; The Flatiron.

Afterwards, we headed to Madison Square Park, seeing it’s across the street and Solène had a ball cooling off in the sprinklers!

Bobo Choses Designs From Spain

August 19th, 2011

I met with the friendly people of Bobo Choses at Playtime New York and am really taken with their magical and dreamlike world. Each new collection tells a whimsical tale written by Felipe Cano and this coming season of Autumn/Winter 2011/2012, it’s all about Chelsea, NY! Love that. I lived in Chelsea for years and these shots look very Chelsea Hotel to me. I want that blue tunic with yellow umbrellas for myself! Also love that this young Spanish brand contributes to a fair trade project intended for workers in Bangladesh. Products are made in Bangladesh under the project by Act Social Bobo Choses to help women to train for jobs in the textile industry. 10% of profits are donated directly to the training school. Take a look at their website  for boutiques around the world that stock them.

Taravat Resort Wear

August 19th, 2011

Taravat is a Persian word that means “freshness” and is perfect for describing these clothes. Taravat is organic, fair trade and uses printing techniques that do not send toxic discharges into the water system. They also promote quality of life for all involved in production and use. And on top of all that, the clothes are so cute and artsy and I just love those original screenprints. Summer fun never ends for them as they focus on resort wear but will be introducing a fall collection soon. And the good news is that these fashions are all available in their online store as well as select boutiques.

Sons + Daughters Fashion Eyewear

August 19th, 2011

I have always been a sunglass fanatic and love these sunglasses from Canadian newcomer Sons + Daughters who actually launched at Playtime New York. These are no child’s play – they use mezzuchelli acetate, durable spring hinges and Carl Zeiss lens so built to last. Also, love their quirky campaign with the kids dressed as icons and the styles named after the icons. As they are brand new, you will have to contact them here to be among the first to buy these pieces of eye candy!

Grass & Clovers

August 19th, 2011

If you want the kids to dress down but still look adorable, Grass & Clovers is the way to go. I met the vivacious and lovely Sarah Sandler-Greisberg at ENK Children’s Club and thought these hand sewn little appliqués were so cute. She uses vintage and recycled fabrics to create these nostalgic and fanciful tees, tanks and hoodies and they are all made by herself – each piece is an original. And I’m not the only one digging them. The celeb brigade has embraced her creations in a big way with Gwen Stefani’s kid and many others spotted in these! Check her website for a list of stockists.

Caramel Baby & Child

August 19th, 2011

I was delighted to come across British label, Caramel Baby & Child at Playtime New York. Designer Eva Karayiannis started off as a lawyer and became a designer when she started Caramel Baby & Child and we’re so glad she did. Their Fall/Winter 2011 collection is exquisite, relaxed, understated, yet chic with little surprises here and there like that intricate little collar and cuffs peeking out from under this rich sapphire pullover. Also, love the yellow dress with the flower sprigs and gold trim and electric blue pullover for the boys. You can purchase Caramel Baby & Child directly from their website, from their adorable shop in London or from outlets all around the world. If you are in New York, Bergdorf Goodman stocks them among others.

A For Apple

August 18th, 2011

And we continue our special Fashion Week with ultra-hip and exciting label, A for Apple which is another Playtime New York find. Hong Kong celebrity designer Denise Ho is dedicated to using organic and environmentally friendly materials whenever possible without sacrificing fashion or comfort. Here’s a sneak peek of their Spring/Summer 2012 line which they have agreed to share with you. I love the daring color blocks and mixed fabric choices and especially love that little grey jumpsuit reminiscent of the 80’s. I guess I’m just a Material Girl at heart! And you can purchase directly from their website or find a boutique that carries them there.

Pink Chicken Bohemian Inspired Fashion

August 17th, 2011

I came across Pink Chicken for the first time in Amagansett in their adorable little shop (see post) and was an immediate fan. I met with Stacey Fraser, the designer at ENK Children’s Fair a couple of weeks ago and got to see their stunning range for 2012 – more on that later. In the meantime, here are some picks from their rich Fall 2011 collection which is inspired by Africa and infused with their trademark Indian block prints. Love that eclecticism and the ever present Bohemian attitude. They’ve expanded their separates collection to include more fun mix ‘n match pants, tops and these versatile gypsy skirts. And the big news is they have just launched their tween label, Poulet Rose, so if your tween was feeling left out, no more! All these pictured are already available on their website.

Little Esop Organic Baby &Toddler Fashions

August 17th, 2011

Another great discovery at Playtime New York. I love these vintage inspired clothes with modern functionality by Little Esop, made from 100% organic materials. Designer Judy Posey believes that style and comfort go together, and these clothes are to be worn and washed and worn time and again – They have created truly sustainable clothing. Their Spring/Summer 2012 line is totally charming and those crossover yellow shorts and pantsuits with elephants are too cute. Check their website for the coming Fall/ Winter season and boutiques that carry Little Esop.
